Jif is a jar a peanut butter that was purchased in a local grocery store. It was purchased by a family who wanted to donate to our Food Pantry. Do you ever wonder how the food pantry works? Let’s follow Jif…
After leaving the grocery store Jif is deposited in the large bins just inside the doors by the Great Room. On Saturday morning the Pantry volunteers collect all of the food, check the expiration dates and mark through the UPC code.
The food is then separated by category -Jif is getting excited to meet his other peanut butter friends.
Jif and his friends are then stored on the food pantry shelves (can you see Jif on the bottom shelf?).
Peanut butter, like Jif is considered an entrée so it gets stored with the other entrees like jelly, spaghetti and sauce, canned tuna, canned pasta and soup. Other categories include vegetables and fruits, pasta, starches and breakfast items.
The food is then bagged with 20 – 30 servings of each category. A bag from each category is then placed in a food distribution bin. The bin is weighed and carried out to a Pantry patron’s car. Jif is excited to be going home to a family!
We would love your donations to the Food Pantry just like Jif. You can drop them off in the food donation bins throughout the week. Join the volunteers on Saturday morning and serve in the Pantry. The Pantry is open every Saturday from 9:30 – 11:30 am. For more information click here
