What is Advent?

Categories: Adults

Last Sunday we lit the first candle of our Advent wreath–the candle of Hope. We also had a great Advent workshop where we made Advent wreaths for each family to have and use together to remember this season of the church.

But what exactly is “Advent”?

Why is it important?

This short video helps explain:

Beyond the Advent wreath, many people like to read a devotional book during their personal devotional time with God each day. Here are a few I’d recommend this season:

1. The Advent Project – This online daily devotional site contains art, music, and a reflection for each day.

2. Things of Wonder – Print out this excellent devotional booklet produced by the staff and members of Peachtree Road UMC in Buckhead. Or follow along daily online here.

3. For the kids (and adults!) – The Jesus Storybook Bible. This is an amazing book that I enjoy reading myself. Some thoughtful people have created this Advent reading guide for you to use with your kids.

How are you celebrating this season?
