Welcomed and Thankful

Categories: Headlines,Uncategorized

0309140828aI have been fortunate enough to have been a member of HMUMC for almost 12 years.   The first time that I walked through the doors of HMUMC, I had an amazing experience – the same experience that I have heard repeated many times over the years from first time visitors.  “HMUMC is such a warm and welcoming church”.  Every time this story is recounted, two names are always included.
Many of you enjoyed Pastor Dave’s sermon on Sunday, March 2, when he shared the story of Miss Katie.   She is one of the two who have always welcomed me.  She truly is amazing and I have been so fortunate to get to know her on a personal basis over the past six years of working at the church.   I have learned and continue to learn so much from her each and every week.
The other person who has blessed me each week is, of course, Roger Freeman who shares the narthex with Miss Katie

each Sunday.   In fact they own and work the room!   Roger Freeman has the unique talent of knowing the names and faces of each and every person who comes to worship at HMUMC.
Over the past 6 years I have had the pleasure of working with Roger.   He has taught me many things including how to keep calm, the ends and out of our ACS management system and how to say “Roll Tide” with pride.  Yesterday, in the 11:00am service we announced Roger’s retirement and gathered for a reception to thank him for all he has done for this church.   I am saddened at the thought of losing my daily conversations with him and being able to work by his side.  I know that Roger deserves his retirement and am happy for him.  But the Narthex just won’t be the same.  I am sure you will join me in missing Roger on Sunday mornings; hopefully he will visit often and volunteer so that we can still see his welcoming smile.

I am thankful to God for putting Roger and Miss Katie in my life.    Do you know of someone who has made a difference in your life?   Make sure you thank them this week for all that they have done.  Because of Miss Katie and Roger I truly feel welcomed and am very thankful.

Roger definitely has a Heart for God and His people. We have all been blessed to have such a caring, dedicated Christian among us. He also has the rare super power gift of calm. God Bless you Roger and Thank you. As Scott Terrell stated Ms. Katie is an Angel amongst us. Amen!

Robin – you are indeed blessed to have had the chance to work with these two. They (and you by the way) are what makes HMUMC so warm and inviting! I’m with you, I hope that Roger is around all the time! And Miss Katie — We Love Her!

Robin……….. your words and acknowledgments of MS. Katy and Roger are spot on. No two people reflect the personality and the theme of ” Generation to Generation” at HMUMC better than these two icons.. Our goal should be to continue the legacies of Roger and MS Katy . We have all seen, experienced & witnessed the ” Warm Welcome and Thank You for Joining Us” greeting …. “Growing Together ” is an affirmation of their confidence in each of us.

It is a privilege to be members along side of MS Katy and MR Roger.

He is an asset to our church family and an example of a true Christian. The church will never be the same with him gone…
