WOW – 34 Quilts in One Month! Thank you “Piecemakers” Prayer Quilt Ministry.
Categories: Service & Volunteering
January was a record month for the “Piecemakers.”
The HMUMC Prayer Quilt Ministry made 34 quilts in January; that’s a lot of quilts! Volunteers worked steadily through the month at church and at home to meet the needs of our congregation and community. Each Wednesday evening, ten or more volunteers work together selecting and cutting fabric and then putting it all together to make a beautiful lap-quilt. These women feel it’s an honor to serve the Lord in bringing comfort to those experiencing loss or illness.
The quilts are a beautiful way to share God’s love and begin the call for prayer and healing. “It’s something they can hold to remind them that God is always present,” Pastor Jason Mincey explains.”
The quilts are only the beginning of the process. Once completed, each quilt is tied with strings and presented for prayers, usually during Wednesday night supper. When a person ties a knot, they offer up prayers for the quilt recipient and their family. “The power of prayer is undeniable,” said Pastor Jason.
“The Piecemakers” Prayer Quilt Ministry meets every Wednesday from 6:00pm-8:30pm and every second Saturday of the month from 10:30am-12:00pm in Modular A-8. Join us and learn how easy it is to make a beautiful quilt for someone in need at our church or in our community! No experience necessary! Please contact Diane Johnson for more information.
Lynne is a proud member of “The Piecemakers” Prayer Quilt Ministry and the Communications Ministry. Thank you, Lynn for telling us more about the Quilting Ministry and for all you do for Hamilton Mill UMC.
