Stephen Ministers are lay persons who provided Christian one-to-one gender specific confidential care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. 2. Bible Study on Wednesday Nights in June

WinShape Camp!! It is going to be A SUMMER OF A LIFETIME – Register for Camp TODAY!

WinShape Camp at HMUMC is the ultimate day camp experience for rising 2nd – 7th graders. Campers choose from 19 different activities. We combine sports, arts, recreation, Bible Study and worship, keeping them busy from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day for the BEST WEEK EVER! Camp is July 14 – 18.

We Need Your Help with Supplies for VBS 2014 on June 2 – 6

In just a few weeks our church will be filled with children excited to learn more about the God who loves them. We need your help getting ready for their arrival. Please visit the website at www.hmumc.org/vbs and consider making a supply donation. Thank you for being a part of a fun-filled week of Bible stories, singing, crafts, games, snacks, exciting skits and more. This year’s theme is “Weird Animals” Where Jesus’ Love is One-of-a-Kind. Registration will close on May 26. We will not have walk-up registration this year, so please register early and tell your friends!

5. HMUMC Farmers’ Market Postponed

Farmer' Market Postponed TeaserDue to low vendor participation the 2014 Farmers Market, scheduled to begin at the end of May, has been cancelled. We will be reaching out to those few vendors who have submitted an application. We hope to find enough interest to create a large and exciting Farmers Market in the future. If you would like to be a vendor or serve on the committee to find vendors for next year please emailjangelderman@comcast.net or if you would like any additional information regarding the future of the Farmer’s Market or other ways to volunteer please email briananddawngraeser@comcast.net.

 

 

 


 

6. Red Cross Summer Blood Drive

Blood DriveMonday, June 9 from 1:00pm-7:00pm

Sign up online at www.redcrossblood.org using the passcode: hamumc (use all lower case letters) or on Sundays, May 25, June 1 and June 8 before or after service in the narthex. While walk-ins are accepted, the Red Cross appreciates appointments since that allows them to plan the drive more efficiently. Be sure to bring either a Red Cross donor card or a photo ID when you come to make your donation. Volunteers are needed. 7. Shazam! Super 5K Run/Walk

Shazam RaceWednesday, June 11, 2014 @6:30am at the Classic Center, Downtown Athens

 Wear your super hero costume and come run a Super-fast race! The 8th Annual North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church’s 5K will be held on June 11th this year and is benefitting the Matthew Initiative, a 501 C3, whose mission is to empower under-resourced churches to build strong and dynamic children’s ministries. The Matthew Initiative has been working with St Paul UMC in downtown Atlanta, Waleska UMC in Waleska, Georgia and Princeton UMC in Athens, Georgia. It is a non-profit supported by Northside UMC, Peachtree Rd UMC, Dunwoody UMC, Candler School of Theology and the Atlanta-Emory District of the United Methodist Church

8. Out of Darkness Training

Help shine a light on human trafficking at this special training class. HMUMC is proud to partner with the Out of Darkness ministry and their mission to help women break the bonds of exploitation in Atlanta. Learn more about how you can help to reach, rescue and restore the women who are still living in bondage. You too can be a part of what God has done and is doing to rebuild and restore the hearts of women in Atlanta and beyond.

9. The Wesley Bell Ringers Concert

Bell Ringers TeaserJune 23 at 7:30pm.

This concert will be part of the choir’s 49th annual concert tour, and will feature 30 teenage ringers playing more than 225 hand-bells and hand-chimes. They have
performed at the US Capitol, Cathedral of the Pines National Monument, Mt. Rushmore, Disneyland and Disney World. The 2014 concert includes the music of Rossini, Handel and Copland. Admission to the concert is free and an offering will be collected. We are looking for several host homes for the bell ringers. If you are interested in hosting, please email robin.boozer@hmumc.org.

 

 


 

10. Please Help us Keep The Pantry stocked for the summer!

PantryThe Pantry at HMUMC is open every Saturday from 9:30am to 11:30am and gives out over 1,500 pounds of food, feeding an average of 70 families each week. The Pantry relies 100% on the generosity of volunteers and donors to support ongoing operations. Volunteers are welcome any Saturday and donations can be dropped off any time during church office hours at the bins located at the portico entrance.

The most needed items include:

  • Canned Entrees, Canned Meats, Canned Fruit, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Canned Vegetables, Pasta, Rice, Beans and Breakfast Cereals. These are our most needed items, however, any nonperishable items are greatly appreciated.
