Growing Together Update
Thanks to your generous support during the Growing Together capital campaign, some exciting things have been happening and we wanted to give you a quick update.
There has been a lot of activity behind the scenes that is necessary to get the actual building constructed. Work is going on both in the modular move and the design of the new worship center.
Our engineering firm, Terracon, is working on the site plan for the location of the modulars and the new worship center.
We also hired a survey firm, Travis Pruitt & Associates to obtain up-to-date topographic information. We are happy to announce that this work has been completed.
The modulars have been inspected to determine what needs to be done to bring the relocated modulars in compliance with current code. After considering two options to move the buildings and determining if all of the modulars needed to be moved, the decision was made to leave the Shed in place. This decision was based on a meeting with our contractor, ADE regarding construction needs for clearance between the buildings in addition to the space required by the new worship center and taking into consideration the need to have the Shed in operation during construction. As soon as the site plan is completed, we will move forward with the process of getting a permit from Gwinnett County to move the modulars.
Our Architect, LDDI, has been working on the Design Development Phase of the new worship center. They plan to have these drawings completed by mid July and the contractor will then update the cost estimate. In order to proceed to the Construction Document Phase, the HMUMC Building Committee will have to be satisfied with the plans so that we can give LDDI the notice to proceed to this Phase. LDDI will be meeting with our interior finishes subcommittee after the Design drawings are accepted. The Building Committee will be meeting with LDDI and ADE to review the design plans and updated cost estimate in late July or early August.
Thank you all again for your positive support as we Grow Together – Generation to Generation. We will continue to give you updates as exciting things happen. We are all in this together and each and every one of you plays an important part of this exciting new chapter in HMUMC history!
*Special thanks to Wouter Gulden for this update and for leading the HMUMC Building Committee!
