November on the Rooftop – Gratitude

Categories: Crosstown Kids

14Nov_standard_GratitudeThis year, I was encouraged by a friend to choose a word to inspire me all year.  I chose – ACKNOWLEDGE.  Proverbs 3:6 says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”  When focusing on acknowledging God in all things, it naturally follows to fall into a constant state of gratitude.  So……I am super pumped about this month’s virtue on the Rooftop!  Gratitude – letting others know how they’ve helped you.

Our memory verse is, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV.  In week 1, we will focus on this verse and encourage kids to reflect on it and remember our Bottom Line:  You always have something to be grateful for.

In week 2, we will jump into the New Testament in Luke where Jesus healed the 10 lepers and only one of them came back to thank him for the miracle.  Our Bottom Line:  Take time to say “thank you”.

Have you ever heard the words, “that’s not fair!” at your house?  For week 3 we’ll talk about the parable of the vineyard workers who complained about what they were getting paid in comparison to others.  Bottom Line:  Take time to adjust your attitude.  (Might not want to miss this week!!!!!)

In the 4th week, we’ll read in Exodus how God gave rules that included celebration.  He wants us to…Take time to celebrate what God has done…our 4th Bottom Line.  Then finally in week 5 we’ll look at Paul’s letter to the Roman followers of Jesus where he thanked a lot of people for helping him.  Bottom Line:  Take time to remember how others have helped you.

A great way to show gratitude is through giving.  This month we encourage you  and your family to pack a shoebox of gifts for a child in a crisis area around the world.  Many of these children have never before received a Christmas present.  Click here for more information.

See you on the Rooftop soon!
