Pastor Dave’s eNote – Music to My Ears!

Categories: Pastor Dave's eNote

I am happy to announce some of the recent changes in our ministry strategy. First, Jessica Taylor has been moved from interim to permanent status. She will assume the duties of Worship Arts Coordinator. Jessica will assist the music and pastoral staff in planning, support and carrying out the logistical functions of worship. She comes with a great deal of experience in worship planning and production. Jessica is a pastor’s daughter and loves the church. She is very familiar with the planning software we use, as well as the media software employed in worship. She will quickly be addressing the growing edges we have in making worship free from distraction. Additionally, Jessica will give leadership to our Children’s Choral Ministry. She comes to us with a love for children, as well as experience in teaching, coaching and mentoring young voices. In the short time she has been with us, our volunteers and children have appreciated her deep faith, her cheerful attitude and her care of volunteers. Here is a little video clip of Jessica teaching our children how to lead in worship.

Second, last week you met Jonathan Nease. Jonathan will give leadership to our 8:15am and 9:30am worship services. He will be working with our pastoral staff to develop worship services that feed, encourage and inspire our congregation. He will be mentoring and providing spiritual leadership to the volunteers that help with contemporary and youth worship. He will also be working with the leadership of the church to develop new models of worship that will help us engage the wider community. When we move into the new facility, we will have the opportunity to offer multiple worship services at the same hour. Jonathan will be a part of this conversation. Additionally, Jonathan will be leading the high school student worship on Sunday nights. He has over three years of experience in leading student worship. Jonathan will also begin a ministry to young adults between the ages of 18 and 25. This age group has been neglected by our church over the last 15 years. Jonathan is the son of a United Methodist Pastor, and is a proven professional in the area of contemporary worship, student ministry and young adult ministry. He is a great addition to Hamilton Mill UMC.

Third, I am very excited to share with you that Jason Landers will assume the position of Director of Traditional Worship. He will be working part-time, until the church moves into the new worship facility. In the meantime, Jason will be adjusting his schedule as a public educator, in order to make room for taking on this added responsibility. He will remain at the piano at 8:15am and 9:30am and continue to bless us with his gifts and energy.

Last, the choir has flourished under Jason’s leadership. New members are joining weekly. He has a profound understanding of traditional worship and he will work with our pastoral staff to plan weekly worship, as well as the traditional celebrations at Easter and Christmas. Jason is excited to be working with Jonathan Nease and Jessica Taylor. The three of them, with Ian Jones working sound and lighting, have become a great team. We know that this positive team of gifted Christ followers will lead Hamilton Mill UMC into God’s preferred future.

In Christ,

David L. Davis
