Groundbreaking Celebration Event Highlight with Video and Pictures!
We had a packed house for the Growing Together – Generation to Generation HMUMC groundbreaking celebration on Sunday, February 15, 2015. It was truly a joyous and historical day. The energy and excitement, as we broke ground, after years of dreaming, planning, and hoping was beautifully intense. There was a thunderous applause after the shovels of our 12 members, representing every generation, moved the first scoops of earth, breaking ground for our new Worship Center. The sounds of cheers and laughter allowed everyone to exhale and rejoice in knowing that this is REAL! We are building!
Our Generation to Generation Groundbreaking ceremonial groundbreakers included; Charlie Underwood, Wouter Gulden, Lynnette Cook, Drew Suiter, Laura Thetford, AJ Fish, Laura Ogletree, Kyle Martin, Faith Lowry, Katherine Dyar, Greyden Harris and Hampton Baston.
The event was also blessed with a special performance of ”Our God Is So Big” by our 3 year old through 1st grade choirs, a congregational prayer in the Sanctuary and a beautiful musical number from our talented Men’s Ensemble.
As dedicated disciples of Jesus Christ, our congregation is excited about what construction means for the future of Hamilton Mill UMC. “Our new expansion will impact the young folks and accommodate more people,” said Gordie Grass, one of our talented choir members.
It is plain to see that this building project truly involves every generation. Our younger generations are just as excited about this construction project. “I am very excited for the new room and drawing more folks to our church,” Macy Ring, one of our active HMUMC students said. Maggie Swartzlander, one of our active 6th grade students, added, “I am excited about having more room so everyone can have a chair.”
Together, we have raised $1,250,229.98 for the “Growing Together Building Campaign.” The groundbreaking officially begins the construction on our beautiful Worship Center, designed around the cross, that will allow our congregation to continue to grow together as dedicated disciples of Jesus Christ. The new Worship Center will include 800 comfortable, moveable seats, an expanded altar for Holy Communion, a warm and welcoming gathering area, a spacious pulpit and altar space and state-of-the-art media sound and lighting. A dedicated Choral Ministry suite will provide spacious rooms for choir robes, instruments, practice staging that mirrors the Worship Center stage above, and plenty of room for future growth opportunities. The Growing Together – Generation to Generation construction project will also include a renovation of the current Sanctuary to create a dedicated Student Center. Like the Worship Center, the Student Center is designed with the cross as a focal point.
The groundbreaking celebration kicks off construction after ongoing fundraising and extensive construction planning. We are still in need of your prayers and support. All generations are invited to join us in this vital church project. Learn more. Make a quick donation. Pledge to support the building campaign by setting up a giving schedule.
