A visit to the mountains – Day five

Categories: High School,Students

Today’s post is Kaitlyn Morgenroth.
She’s joined on the trip by her sister and her mom and dad!

Today was a beautiful day!

We went up to the top of a nearby mountain to work with kids at a school there. We did VBS activities like Bible stories and take home crafts, and the little kids were so excited to make the crafts! After they made the them, they came out to a common area and played with them and had so much fun!

One of the coolest things we did today was we to take each child’s picture and print a copy for them with a portable photo printer. The excitement on their faces when they saw their pictures was so great to see! Once they saw the room that the portable printer was in, they ran over to watch it print out the pictures. It was amazing to see how happy and excited they were to see something that people use daily in America.

The Girls of Grace donated the photo printer and supplies that enabled us to print each child’s photo!

Once we finished the crafts there, we headed over to the Happy Tummies. This is the second Happy Tummies location and is in the mountain city of Panyebar. We ate lunch and then helped them pass out the kids’ lunches. During our lunch, Katie Ring shared her famous goodnight speech. Meanwhile, I was talking to our fabulous bus driver, Manuel, in his language (Spanish). I struggled a little bit on how to say certain words. But thank goodness our interpreter, Robinson, helped me out! Shout out to Robinson for encouraging me to learn how to say things correctly instead of just saying them how I thought they were supposed to be said.

The Way Sunday School Class donated these solar powered lights that we were able to give to each child at Happy Tummies. They were reminders that Jesus is the light of the world!

Today was an amazing day and I am so glad that through it all I got to see how God works through people even when they speak two different languages.

Debriefing at the end of the day!

Kind of interesting. At the bank I was excited that we approved a $20,000,000 loan and also had a loan request to buy a penthouse unit at Orange Beach for one of our customers that wanted to “upgrade” their second home. Then I saw the photos shown here with the beautiful smiles and bright eyes and the ones with the beautiful backdrop overlooking the water and the mountains. The children and adults had unadulterated joy exuding from them. Then I realized my day wasn’t so special after all. I am positive there was more contentment around the bonfire than here at the bank. Well done guys. I can tell it was a wonderful day replete with memories that will be cherished. These are the stories I want to hear about on the ride home from the airport with Abby.
We miss you and love you Abby,

God is Love and you are all getting a chance to share Him with your new found friends. Our prayer is that you are all filling your hearts with these amazing memories of what God can do when you focus on Him and less on yourselves. Take these memories back and remember that even one bad day can’t erase a second of joy that God put in your heart.

    Love and prayers to all,
    The Ring Family

Loving these photos! And can I request a transcript of Katie’s goodnight speech? Also really hoping these comments are being read out loud so PJ’s face can go red as he tells the crowd that his boo misses him. Praying for each of you this week!

I am loving the photos. Thank you for sharing your experiences with the rest of us. I don’t think I mentioned before that we shared the group photo with the congregation Sunday to rousing applause at all three services. The whole congregation is proud of you and thankful for your presence there.

And I’m proud of Kathy. She wears her visor jauntily. A few years ago I’m not sure she would have tackled something like this. I miss you and love you, Kathy Koo.

Amanda-You knew you would perform a little hard work for Gods people. You knew your showers and food wouldn’t be as they are in your culture. You knew there would be a language barrier. And you know you are changing lives! That was your intention on going to this beautiful country!

Because of your unselfish heart and willingness to share your faith, I pray you have encountered Gods heart and seen His compassion for another country. God is global and working through you! I know you will return home more grateful for everything you have and with a new spiritual family. You’ve created bonds this week that will last a lifetime.

As you return home reflecting on this past week, I pray you feel God’s powerful love. That you know He loves you just as much as He loves the people of Guatemala.

Can’t wait to see you and hear all about your experiences and how God has alive. I have missed you and I love you so very much!

The Holy Spirit is covering you.
