Today’s post is by Reagan Mahaley–a senior who has been on the trip every year we’ve come.
Yesterday included a mixture of smiles, laughs and warm hearts.
We began in the morning with the Abuelitos, which means little grandparents in Spanish. Unfortunately, many of them have been neglected by their families and are forced to survive on their own. Because of this, the Impacto staff share the uplifting word of God and give them a nutritious meal which allows them to perceive the world in a new light. We introduced ourselves, danced, and made crafts. Their hugs and smiles will forever be in my heart!
After lunch we got to see the kids at Happy Tummies one last time. We shared a lunch of beans, rice, and tortillas with them. They sang us songs in a Mayan dialect, Spanish, and English. And after that, we did crafts and played with bubbles. You would not believe how amazed and entertained they were from a few bubbles. Those kids are so content even though they have so little.
We said our final goodbyes and rode the bus back to the Promised Land. Back at the Promised Land, we ate dinner and summed up the trip with ice cream and a memorable discussion. Guatemalan ice cream is the best!
Today, we’re doing some sight seeing in Panajachel on the lake and then we’re headed to Antigua for the night. Before you know it we will be back home in Georgia.
See y’all then!
