August on the Rooftop – Week One and Two

Trust and obey.  Like peanut butter and jelly, like peas and carrots, trust and obey just go together, don’t they?  This month we are focusing on OBEDIENCE – trusting those who lead you by doing what you’re asked to do.  Despite the fact this virtue is super timely with going back to school and the return to routine, it’s not just for the kids.  God gave Adam and Eve a beautiful place to enjoy in Paradise, but instead of following his rules, they decided to make up their own.  We all face times when we think our way is better than the plan set out for us.  Adam and Eve’s disobedience changed history and impacted the world forever.

Our bottom line for week 1:  I should trust and obey even when I think my way is better.

Week 2, we visit Noah in the broken world left behind by the sin from the Garden of Eden.  Noah trusted and obeyed God when the rest of the world chose to ignore him.

Our bottom line for week 2:  I should trust and obey even when others don’t.  Our memory verse this month comes from Hebrews 13:17a, “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.”

Our PreK Sunday morning class desperately needs leaders at 9:30am for our 3 year old Sunday School class.  Please consider serving with these precious babies this fall!  Contact Dana Terry at dana.terry@hmumc.org for more information!

I am so excited about our first ever retreat coming up September 9-11.  Please consider sending your 3rd-5th grader on a weekend that will be both fun and life changing.  To encourage chaperones, we are offering this event free of charge to those parents willing to come along with their child.  Click http://hmumc.org/th_event/crosstownkidsretreat to sign up and for more info.  We have just a few spots left, so don’t delay!

Crosstown Kids rising K-5th grades should be dropped off in the Rooftop on Sunday mornings.  Doors open at 9:15am for the 9:30am service and 10:45am for the 11am service. Kids will get picked up, however, downstairs in our children’s area.  Please pick up a parent card upon check-in for more information including classroom numbers.
