Day one in the books!

Today’s guest post is written by Christina Tsangrides–a first-timer!

The view when we woke up!

We began our day earlier than we would have liked due to some road closures/construction, but as our day began we were all grateful for this beautiful day in Guatemala!

Before we started to eat breakfast at the Happy Tummies location in San Juan La Laguna we had an amazing devotional with Pastor Louis. In it, he asked us our favorite bible verses and then he formed his devotional off of those verses.

After breakfast as we left Happy Tummies, we ran into a problem… there was a truck blocking our way. Our driver, Manuel, got out to tell whoever the owner was to please move it… but the driver wasn’t there! Manuel came back into the bus and said that he needs all the boys to help move the truck. The truck was heavy, so this didn’t work as planned. And…. one of the locals ended up squeezing his arm into the window to unlock the door, and then put the truck in neutral. We were soon on our way to the Impacto’s second Happy Tummies site in Panyebar to bring food to families and spend time with the children.

Once we got there, we prayed with the locals that were helping us with construction. One group began building outside, another was giving a lesson on the prodigal son to the kids, and another was out doing house visits–delivering food to local families and praying with them for their needs. Eventually, we all switched and got a chance to do everything before eating lunch. After lunch we all went down to the field and played a lot of games with the kids for a few hours before we got back on the bus to go to the Happy Tummies near the promised land.

After lunch, we all went down to the field and played a lot of games with the kids for a few hours before we got back on the bus to go to the Happy Tummies site in San Juan La Laguna again for dinner. Now, we’re back at the compound showering, playing soccer, and relaxing in hammocks before we do our evening devotional and go to bed.

An Easter Egg Hunt!

Greetings from San Franscisco!!! I was so excited to see your first pictures from Guatemala on my news feed this morning!! Go, Katie Ring and Abby Uzzell…picking up cement blocks. I’m all about girl power. And who knew the President was talking about Kyle Martin…when he said we were going to build a wall. Not sure about playing dizzy bat. Wasn’t that bus ride enough of that?? And absolutely not surprised at all that Manuel decided physically picking up a truck to move it was a good idea!!! It must have been all the way across the road because I’ve seen him squeeze in unbelievably small spaces!!! I love all of your beautiful faces and seeing the kids… loving you being there! I’m incredibly proud of all of you… but especially my senior girls! Love you, Katie Anna Hope Abby Abby Katie. Blessing to all!!
