Pastor Mark’s eNote – When the Water Rises, HMUMC Responds

Categories: Headlines

When there is a need, Hamilton Mill UMC responds. Before us is an opportunity to work through our powerful United Methodist connection to relieve suffering and help our neighbors on the Gulf Coast. Please read Natalee’s remarks below and prayerfully consider how you can help. I thank God for HMUMC and our United Methodist Church. We truly are touching lives with Christ’s love around the corner and around the world.

There are moments in time when the world seems to slow down, moments that we know will mark us for the rest of our lives. Hurricane/tropical storm Harvey feels like one of those moments. We stopped and watched as our brothers and sisters began to lose everything, as people were pulled out of houses onto boats, as the water rose, and the winds raged. If you’re like me, you felt powerless and wished and prayed for some way to help the people who have lost everything.

As the flooding continues and the long recovery begins, we do indeed have an opportunity to stand with those who have lost so much. Our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) will be on hand for as long as needed, caring for those who are hurting, helping in the rebuilding, and sharing Christ’s love. Here are four easy ways we can partner with this vital ministry:

  1. Monetary Donation: Click HERE to make a monetary donation online, or you can write a check to HMUMC and mark it “UMCOR.”
  2. Donate Relief Kit Items: Click HERE to see a list of items needed to make relief kits. We have a lofty goal of 100 kits by Wednesday, September 6. If you’re able, PLEASE let us know what you can bring, so we can monitor the items still needed to reach our goal. Donation bins are located in the Worship Center. Invite your LifeGroup, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family to join in gathering supplies. So many people want to help, and we can provide this avenue for our community.
  3. Relief Kit Packing Party: Click HERE to sign up for our packing party on Wednesday, September 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the old Worship Center. We can’t wait to pack 100 kits (or more!) with you. Don’t forget to RSVP for Wednesday Night Supper if you plan to eat before we pack!
  4. Pray: We believe in the power of prayer. Please join us in praying for the lives changed forever by hurricane/tropical storm Harvey. Pray for first responders, rescue teams, disaster coordinators, and rescue volunteers. Pray for the people of the United Methodist Church, across conferences, as they work tirelessly to provide relief after Harvey.

We invite you to join us in our efforts. Together we can make a difference and an impact on the lives of so many.

                                                                                              In Christ,

                                                                                              The Rev. Natalee Dukes Hamby
