1. Hurricane Relief

HMUMC’s Help for Harvey!
HMUMC is joining the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s efforts to help provide relief to the many victims of hurricane Harvey.

Here are 4 easy ways you can help!

  1. Monetary Donation Click here to make a monetary donation online or write a check to HMUMC and mark it “UMCOR.”
  2. Donate Relief Kit Items Our most needed items are:
    • Insect-repellent spray (6-14oz. aerosol or spray pump with protective cover)
    • Heavy-duty trash bags (33-45 gallon sizes)
    • Sponges
    • Clothesline (One 100-ft. or two 50-ft. lines. Cotton or plastic)
  3. Relief Kit Packing Party Click here to sign up for our packing party tonight at 6:30pm in the Old Sanctuary/Soon to be Student Center.
  4. Pray!Please continue to pray for those whose lives have been impacted by hurricane Harvey.

2. Chrismon Workshop

Chrismon Workshop
September 12th at 10am in “The Shed”
Believe it or not, it is time to get ready for the Christmas Season! Join us for a workshop to make new ornaments for the trees in our Worship Center. We will have weekly workshops until we make enough to fill the trees. Each beaded Chrismon symbolizes Christ’s monogram. No experience required other than willing hands and joyful hearts. Please bring small nose pliers and wire cutters. For more information, contact Gayle Norton at mgbnut1973@yahoo.com.

3. Forsyth Philharmonic Performance

Forsyth Philharmonic!
Saturday, September 16th at 2 pm at HMUMC
All are invited to a performance of music from around the globe by the Forsyth Philharmonic! Directed by Jason and Rachel Landers, the orchestra will perform An American in Paris, selections from The Sound of Music, Egyptian Legacy, Pirates of the Caribbean, and several original works composed by members of the group! Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. The Forsyth Philharmonic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit symphony orchestra comprised of adult professional musicians, teachers, hobbyists, and talented students.

4. Ministry Highlights

Please Bring Your HMUMC Piecemakers Prayer Quilt to Church!
Sunday, September 17 at 8am, 9:15am or 11am
We are celebrating the love and prayers that our congregation has helped to spread through the Piecemakers Prayer Quilt Ministry. If you have received a prayer quilt from this special ministry, please bring your quilt to church on Sunday, September 17th. If you have requested a prayer quilt for a friend or loved one, this is the perfect time to invite them to worship with you at HMUMC!
KidsHope Volunteers Needed
We are looking for mentors to spend just one hour per week, reading, talking, playing and listening to a child at school. By helping the child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow and succeed.

United Methodist Men’s FISH FRY!

All men are invited to our annual FISH FRY. Come hang out, enjoy a free meal and hear from our guest speaker.

This month’s topic: From Ashes to Beauty. Cathy Samaria, whose daughter died in a tragic accident, will share how God has been with her, bringing hope and good even from this devastating loss.

7. Crosstown Kids’ News

Third Grade Bibles
Sunday, September 24 at the 9:15am and 11:00am services
One of our favorite days is just around the corner! Third Grade students will receive a Bible during the 9:15am or 11:00am worship services. Please sign up using the link below by September 20th, so that your third grader will receive their Bible.
Third grade parents, please have your third grader sit with you in service on September 24th. During the Bible presentation, we will recognize each third grader by name and invite them up front to receive their Bible. After all children have been presented with Bibles, they will return to their seats and continue worshiping with us in the Worship Center. After service, please join us up front for a group picture.

8. We Need You!

Receptionist Needed
The Receptionist position is a vital link between our church ministry and the congregation. This person serves as a gateway for all weekday activity and is the one most responsible for creating a positive and inviting impression of the church and its ministries. We are looking for receptionists to volunteer on the 1st, 3rd or 5th Tuesdays of the month from 9am-12pm and/or 12pm-3pm.  If interested, email jennifer.markham@hmumc.org.
Join Our Nursery Staff!
HMUMC Nursery is hiring for our Sunday morning nursery and events through out the year.  Qualified candidates will be 18 years or older, certified in CPR and first aid (or willing to obtain certification), pass a background check, and have a love for children.  Interested applicants should contact Dana Terry at dana.terry@hmumc.org.

9. Celebrations

Food Fight for The Pantry!
We collected 41,129 pounds of food for our community during last month’s Food Fight! The Pantry and The Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry, Inc. will be feeding folks for the next couple months because of the efforts of Dacula High School, Mill Creek High School, our HMUMC congregation, and the community. Thank you so much for your support!
Thank You for Supporting the American Flag Retirement Project!
The Military Support Group and the Scouts would like to thank the congregation for donating 155 American Flags. These flags will be retired in a ceremony by the Scouts later this Fall and the stars will be given to the congregation.
