Jennifer Markham

Preschool Director

“I really enjoy working with children, helping to make preschool enjoyable, and watching them learn.”

As the director of Hamilton Mill UMC’s preschool, Jennifer Markham has a passion for providing a loving Christian environment in which children experience positive “hands-on” learning that encourages spiritual, social, intellectual, physical, and mental development. Her and her team of dedicated teachers help our preschool children to learn by exploring the world around them through play, Bible stories, music, activities, all while learning to love others and understand the love of Jesus Christ. Jennifer is happily married to Kevin, and they have two sons, Alex and Andrew. She has a Bachelor in Sociology and Elementary Education from Briar Cliff College in Iowa, and a Masters in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston. Jennifer taught in elementary school for ten years before joining our church as preschool director.

Q&A with our Preschool Director

What has God called you to do here at Hamilton Mill UMC?

We moved here about eleven years ago, and after my second son was born and was older we started attending church more regularly. I noticed that they needed Sunday school teachers, and I felt called to come back and work with children.  I have enjoyed teaching Sunday school, helping with vacation bible school and the preschool for over seven years.  I really enjoy working with children, helping to make preschool enjoyable, and watching them learn.”

What is your vision for what you do?

I hope to continue to keep the preschool running as smoothly as Renee did when it started over ten years ago.  I continue to have high expectations for the staff and for that to carry over into the classrooms where the children learn about God and the Bible. This preschool will continue to be a safe and loving environment where each and every child can learn and develop in preparation for school and life.

Where would you like to see your ministry in five years?

As of right now we cannot grow in numbers, we have no more space, but I would like to continue with high enrollment. We will focus on staff development, so our teachers continue to learn and bring fresh ideas into our classrooms. We are also committed to making sure that each of our children has a positive and loving experience.

Where are you praying for people to help?

I continue to pray for the preschool as a whole, our staff and each of the families that walk through our doors. We know many people are struggling and we want this preschool to be a positive place for all.
